Day of Musical Fun

Wow what a day. I was pretty sure today was goign to be rought, what with having to fly to TN and missing the Seelie Court show becasue of it. The day started off sour, when IDOT decided its a goot idea to replace english tollway signswith pictoral ones so peopel that cant read english can still figure out how to use the tollway… Of course doing so requires them to close down all but one laneof the tollway out by me. This made me 20 minutes late for the Chicago Maritime Festival. I wasn’t thrilled aobut that because I mised out on the 1st 20 minutes of the all hands shanty sing. Still I arrived in time to catch a few tunes and join in a little.
The rest of the maritime fest was a blast though. Bounding Main put on astellar performance. I even heard on comment form behind me that said “These guys are incredible”.
After teh MAritime festival, I drove on to OHaire Airport and went to the intense “fun” involved there. All the time wishing I coudl go to the Seelie Court show in Genoa. WEll after teh flight i Text messaged a few people to let them know I made it in ok. Shortly after that my buddy Chris called me form the Seelie COncert in Genoa, and asked if there were any songs I wanted to hear. I told him two of my favorites and he said he woudl call me. That raised my spirits a lot.
Little did I know that when he did call me, i woudl be in my hotel room, and the clarity on my cell phone in speaker phone mode was good enough that we left the phones running. I got to hear almsotthe entire 2nd set. 😀 I even got a few heckles from Jon. What a night, I’m sitting here in TN in my hotel room, uploading pictures from this mornings show in Chicago, to a server Somonauk, IL while Listening to a concert going on in Genoa, IL. (and also a concert goign on outside the hotel in Nashville, TN) Wow isn’t technology grand. 🙂

In addition to technology thoguh, my friends are the greatest. I’m not sure what I did to deserve all of you, but I sure hope I’m worth it 😀

Thanks again to all of you!!!

IP Fun

Well, it looks like my site is back. I had an unexpected change of IP address over the weekend and so things were unavailable until DNS could update. I get the sick feeling that this may become a regular occurance. If it does I will probably be forced to host my webserver elsewhere. Preliminary accomidations are being made to that end as well. I also discoved once my IP changed tothis new range tha apparently the hackers in the world knew of this new range. Within the 1st day of being on this new address there were 4 distinct attempts to crack my root password via ssh. Thats more attempts than I had in a month before.

iTunes and Pepsi

Well, once again Pepsi has started up thier iTunes promotion. If you happen to get a code and you arent goign to use it, feel free to send it my way. The funny thing is, Just when I was starting to ween myself off of my daily Pepsi habbit. Oh well. 🙂

Upcoming Faire Trips

Well, I’ve started to outline the Renaissance Faires I will be visiting this year. Or at least the ones I plan to visit. This list is likely to change as Its pretty big right now… I think this is the order as well. I will attend every day of Bristol, barring any unforseen circumstances. I already have my Season pass, as usuall.

  • GA Renaissance Faire
  • TN Renaissance Faire
  • St Louis Renaissance Faire
  • Cotswold Renaissance Faire
  • Bristol Renaissance Faire
  • OH Renaissance Faire

So if you are a regular at any of these faires keep an eye out, you might just run into me 🙂

Updated Captcha

Well I did some tweaking, and added a touch more randomness to the captcha. It now at least changes every day. The way I designed it I don’t think it will really be to hard adapt it to change for every post on every session. Right now I just don’t see the need.
Here is an example of what the image looks like.
CAPTCHA

I think I will probably look into the plugins code for wordpress and see if i can’t make this into a plugin.

Blog Spam – Captcha

Well, this morning I got hit with yet another round of blog spam. It seems the blog spam bots are adaptive enough to notice when I rename a file. My assumption was that they never read the site HTML to see that the comment post url isn’t the default for wordpress. It seems that’s not really the case. I now added a rudimentary CAPTCHA saftey check that should take care of this at least for the comments form. I have some work to do on it yet, for now I have to change the word on my own. Later I will be adding random word selection once I get some more time.

Back to School

So a friend of mine started teaching a netware administraton class at the college. After a little coaxing I signed up for it. While I was looking over my transcripts I noticed I only needed onemore class to complete my programming certificate. It took me a while to make the descision but I did, and I signed up for that class too. It’s an online class, somethign I’ve never tried before. Now on top of at least 40 hours of work a week I also have 6 credit hours of classes. Toss in about 6 hours a week for homework and thats eating up a LOT of time. I have to laugh though, becasue my teacher for the class to complete my certificate emailed me after I turned in my first asignment and asked “Is this THE John Wohlers?” I had to laugh at that, it seems I’m some sort of a legend. 🙂

Blog Spam

Well, here it is, the first post of the new year. I purposefully held off all of January to see if by any chance the blog spammers software would lose track of my blog. It didn’t work. Oh well, guess I can get back to my regularly scheduled irregular postings. 😀
