Today, just because I was feeling mischievous, I set the “Ready” message on 2 of our printers to some non standard values.
“Out of Cheese”
and
“I Can Haz Print Job?”

Simple one liner I used is:
echo “@PJL RDYMSG DISPLAY=”I CAN HAZ PRINT JOB?”” | nc 10.0.0.1 9100
You would have to have a system with “nc” on it to use this one. The same thing could be achieved by using telnet to open port 9100 and pasting in the text from the quotes.
Did I ever thank you or that? It made my day 😀 everytime I picked up a print job up for students I couldn’t help but laugh! The students all prob thought I was going mad. Lol
You’re welcome! Glad you liked it. I had been talking with sysadmins and we were discussing some of the more silly things we have done and i remember i used to do things like that to the printer, so i had to do it again for fun.
Too funny! I’m not sure anyone around here would notice if I tried something like that.
